Ava Sedgwick is originally from Australia where she cultivated her story-telling by studying law and politics. She now lives in Ireland and has a Masters in Creative Writing with first class honours from the University of Limerick.

To fund her writing, Ava has worked in numerous jobs including as a poker dealer, union official, political speechwriter, chambermaid, kitchenhand, bartender, waiter, cleaner, community advocate, fruit and veg seller and herbal skincare manufacturer. While this varied experience colours her fiction, she is very grateful to the Arts Council of Ireland for a 2024 grant. 

In that same bountiful year, she won the Gemini Magazine Short Story Contest and received an Honourable Mention in the Great Gutsy Novelist First Chapter Prize for the novel she is currently working on.
